Fitness@MWH

We are happy to support the health and well-being of our patients, and that includes putting a little sweat into it as well. We offer a Prenatal Pilates Class that meets on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 – 7:00pm and a Post-Partum Class that meets on Monday mornings from 10:30am-11:30am. These classes, taught by experienced instructors who specialize in women-related exercise, will help you maintain strength during and after your pregnancy. Class size is limited, so register early.

Prenatal Pilates Class 2014

Description of Class
The class will focus on building core strength and stretching the whole body while encouraging proper body alignment and effective breathing techniques. Core exercises will primarily target that transverses abdominis, internal and external obliques, and pelvic floor, and will limit the use of the rectus abdominis. Stretching exercises will target the lower back, shoulders, and chest, incorporating rotation and side bends. Hamstrings, gluteals, and calf muscles will also be stretched, taking care not to over-stretch or add to the instability of the joints. Body positions will change often, and will include lying prone (but limiting this position to no more than 2-3 minutes at a time), side lying, sitting, kneeling, kneeling on all fours, and standing.

Each 60 minute class is limited to eight people and is open to pregnant women who have been cleared by their physician for this class.
